Designer Love: Alexander McQueen

This week’s Designer Love is one of the nearest and dearest to my heart. I’m not talking obsession, I’m talking whole-hearted love. This man is one of the people who indirectly, but very directly changed my life for the better. His work and his passion mean everything to me.

Lee Alexander McQueen’s work is not only extraordinary; it is some of the most impeccable work you may ever lay your eyes on. His expertise in tailoring comes from his time on Savile Row. His time working for and with experts made him exactly that. His work became impeccable and with a creative mind like his, it only led him right to success.

His shows were nothing short of breathtaking. They were intricate and beautiful productions that shocked and astounded the audience. Not one McQueen show could ever be described as boring. Being held in castles, churches, and the like, I’m not quite sure that word would ever fit.

McQueen’s accomplishments are endless, but some of his biggest are being the youngest to win title of "British Designer of the Year", which he won four times and sparking the low-rise jean  trend with his "bumsters".

McQueen's life was cut short by suicide just three years ago this past February. This was one of the most heartbreaking moments in fashion history. His legend and designs will live on forever in the hearts of many and still do in many trends and designs we see today.

Today, Sarah Burton is the creative director of Alexander McQueen. She was his long-time assistant and her work thus far has been very reflective of a lot of his styles. I look forward to seeing how she handles the brand!

R.I.P Lee Alexander. We'll miss you forever.
